Singer Femi Kuti has warned the All Progressive Congress against using his family’s trademarked name on a T-shirt that bore the name “JAGABAN”.

On Tuesday, the handle of the APC on Twitter shared a picture of a T-shirt with an inscription of late afrobeat singer Fela Kuti.
The singer made it clear that the owns the name and the use of it constitutes an infringement and disregard of it’s legal right.

Femi Kuti also advised that the tweet should be deleted as the family does not align with any political party in Nigeria and beyond.

“‘I have seen the tweet by @APCNigeria and confirm that use of Fela’s name on the T-shirts bearing the name “JAGABAN” was never authorized. The family owns the trademark and the use constitutes an infringement and disregard of our legal rights. The user is advised to cease and also to immediately delete this tweet. The family does not align with any political party in Nigeria or beyond. We are carefully assessing the situation and failure to comply with this demand will leave us with no other option but to explore any legal options that are available to us.”
A quick check at the official Twitter account of APC showed that the image was still up.
