Court Grants Emefiele N50 Million Bail with Two Sureties

A Special Offences Court sitting in Lagos State has granted an N50 million bail to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele on 26 count charges bordering on abuse of office.

Justice Rahmon Oshodi in his ruling on the bail application on Friday, admitted Emefiele on bail with two sureties in like sum and both must be gainfully employed and have three years of tax payment with the Lagos State Government.

He further ruled that the sureties must show proper identification and they must be registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.

The judge also said that he was satisfied with the bail conditions of N1 million, earlier given to Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Isioma-Omoil who is standing another charge before Justice Olufunke Sule-Hamzat at a Yaba High Court.

Fresh charges against Emefiele as compiled by Statisense include Allocating FX of $2.14 billion without bid, allocating FX of $291.05 million without bid, abuse of office by special allocation of FX $1.77 billion, abuse of office by special allocation of FX of $370.82 million.

Corruptly received $26.55 million from NIPCO Plc, corruptly received $740,000 from NIPCO Plc, received $2.41 million from Raja Punjab on account of FX to his employer, received $6.32 million from Raja Punjab on account of FX to his employer.

Others include receiving $7.72 million from Raja Punjab on account of FX to his employer, receiving $850,000 from Raja Punjab on account of FX to his employer, received $400,000 from Source Computer Ltd as kickback for contract award, received $200,000 from Source Computer Ltd as kickback for contract award.
