Tensions flared in Iware, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State, as a group of irate youths attempted to set fire to the local office of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) following the alleged torture death of a suspect in their custody.
The incident began on the night of March 30, around 9:00 p.m., when 24-year-old Biliaminu Adamu was arrested for allegedly stealing two mobile phones and two packs of Benson cigarettes from a man named Peter Majo in Iware Ward.
During interrogation, Adamu reportedly accused Yunusa Kaka, a 42-year-old local resident, of being involved in the theft. Kaka, however, denied the allegations.

In an attempt to extract a confession, security officers reportedly subjected Kaka to physical abuse. After enduring severe torture, Kaka was left unresponsive and was rushed to Miyetti Allah Hospital in Iware by his brother, where he was later pronounced dead.
The news of Kaka’s death spread quickly, igniting widespread anger among the local youths, who rallied to attack the NSCDC office in protest. The situation almost escalated into violence, but law enforcement managed to contain the situation and prevent the building from being set on fire.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and efforts to restore calm in the area have been successful for now.
