A 43-year-old man, Paul Agwu, was apprehended this morning while illegally dumping refuse into the Oshodi canal, a dangerous act authorities warn contributes directly to urban flooding and threatens the safety of entire communities.

According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab on Monday, environmental officials who were conducting routine patrols in the area reportedly caught Agwu in the act.
He was immediately detained and now faces swift prosecution under Lagos State environmental protection laws.

“Dumping waste in canals is a recipe for flooded homes. We will never tolerate this reckless endangerment of our communities,” Wahab said.
Officials are urging residents to report similar activities and warned that others engaging in such illegal dumping will be tracked down.
Authorities warn that environmental abuse will not be overlooked, particularly during the rainy season when clogged drainage channels often result in devastating floods.
