Celebrity barman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has said he regrets not supporting President Bola Tinubu during the last general election, describing his previous political choice of voting Labour Party 2023 Presidential Candidate Peter Obi as a mistake.

In a recent statement in Owerri, Imo State on Friday, the nightlife entrepreneur said he backed former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 election because he wanted to identify strongly with his Igbo roots, but now believes that decision was misguided.

“At the past election I didn’t support Tinubu because I wanted to be an Igbo boy by supporting Peter Obi, and I made some careless mistakes. I was a fool then, but not anymore,” he said.

Cubana Chief Priest explained that many people from the South-East are now focused on securing what he described as a fair share in the Nigerian political system.

According to him, the experience of the civil war and its aftermath has continued to shape the political calculations of many Igbo people.

“We’re just looking for a fair share in this government. We Igbos are a people defeated during the war, and it hasn’t been easy for us in Nigeria. That’s why we want to be smart this time around to get what we want,” he said.

He added that many in the region are determined to make strategic political decisions moving forward.

“We don’t want to lose again, and we will never waste our votes again. That’s why we’re standing with the City Boy movement and Tinubu,” he stated.

The socialite also claimed that there are growing ties between the president’s family and the South-East, adding that President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, is reportedly set to marry an Igbo woman.

“Also, they won’t tell you that Seyi Tinubu is marrying an Igbo girl. He is our brother and our own,” he said.
